Eric Chu Condemns Lai Ching-te’s “10 Talks on the Country”
KMT Chairman Eric Chu condemns William Lai's speech as political purification and a step towards dictatorship. The “Ching-Te Project” is fundamentally a political purification.
During the Kuomintang (KMT) Central Standing Committee meeting held on June 25, KMT Chairman Eric Chu condemned President Lai Ching-te’s recent “10 Talks on the Country,” labeling them as a blatant attempt at political purification and cleansing aimed solely at promoting Taiwanese independence. Chairman Chu pointed out that historically, dictators have consistently favored political purification and cleansing. He called upon all citizens who refuse to be treated as political “impurities,” and who oppose Taiwan becoming a land of political cleansing and purification, to firmly stand against Lai’s dictatorship by voting “no” in the recall elections on July 26.
Chairman Chu expressed deep regret over President Lai’s ongoing “10 Talks on the Country,” emphasizing that the unity Lai advocates is in fact political purification—a cleansing of national politics to promote Taiwanese independence by systematically removing all dissenting voices. Chu underscored that the concept of “removing impurities”(去除雜質) through political cleansing, which Lai openly promotes, is historically associated with dictatorships, such as the extreme political purity seen in North Korea today.
Chu further highlighted that on the Lai administration’s Executive Yuan official website, the “national profile” categorizes approximately 96% of Taiwan’s population as the “remaining population.” In his second “10 Talks” delivered by Lai Ching-te on June 24, the majority of Taiwanese citizens were again labeled as “impurities(雜質),” further marking opponents of his administration as undesirable elements that need to be removed or eradicated.
Chairman Chu went on to emphasize that President Lai’s actions clearly demonstrate that his intention is not to unify Taiwan, nor to strengthen the Republic of China, but rather to implement a “Ching Te Project” (清德工程). Chu explained that the “Ching” (清) in “Ching Te” means cleansing, removing, and purifying; the “Te” (德), originally representing democracy, is being abused by Lai who disguises his dictatorial aspirations with the appearance of democracy. The “Ching-Te Project,” Chu argued, is fundamentally a political purification engineered to establish a one-party dictatorship under Lai.
Chairman Chu reminded that since its founding, the Republic of China has proudly upheld two national pillars—“Mr. Democracy (德先生)” and “Mr. Science(賽先生).” “Mr. Democracy” represents the robust democratic system built over decades, while “Mr. Science” symbolizes Taiwan’s world-leading technological achievements.
However, Chu lamented that under Lai’s administration, Taiwan’s semiconductor industry—represented by its national champion TSMC—has already been hollowed out, and now the democratic institutions themselves are under threat through the political purification drive. Chairman Chu argued that Lai Ching-te’s actions closely mirror the political cleansing historically favored by dictators. He noted that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is now systematically employing mass recall campaigns and judicial persecution against opposition parties to purge perceived “impurities” according to Lai’s criteria, marking a tragic erosion of Taiwan’s democracy.
